I have a somewhat odd situation I suppose. When iOS 5 came out I started using iCloud for contacts since it was easier. However, I still use Gmail for mail since it seems to be a lot better. The problem I now face is that any new contacts I add with an email address will only show up on iCloud, and not Gmail. So when I go to compose new mails in Gmail, I don't have the persons email address and must go over to my iPhone or iCloud.com to look at it.
So the question here is, is there anyway that I can export iCloud contacts to my Gmail account (Gmail was my previous contact backup solution) without having to give up on using iCloud. Basically, I want to use both iCloud and Gmail to sync contacts, but don't want duplicates of anything on my iPhone to show up. Is it even possible?

The following technique assumes that you have all of your Gmail Contacts up-to-date and want them imported onto your I-Phone. It also assumes that there are NO CONTACTS YOU WANT EXISTING ON YOUR IPHONE, MAC, OR ICLOUD.

I would have paid somebody $500 to figure this out for me, but I could not find anyone who understood it. The catch is that Google uses Microsoft Exchange for your Iphone (goofy I know-Google using Microsoft to talk to Apple).
I've searched through the forums and whilst this topic is raised quite a few times it hasn't really been answered. I have got 3500+ contacts on my work PC in Outlook.
I have installed Outlook for Mac 2011 on my new imac and I have the full contacts copied across into it. However when I sync my iphone with my new imac I cannot sync the Contacts with Outlook as it doesn't give me that option. The question is how do I copy my contacts into the mac Address book. I have all the contacts saved as a PST file. I have also copied all the contacts individually as.MSG files. It would appear from previous questions that I need to save them as vcards which Outlook for Mac doesnt offer!

OK, Try this Download Thunderbird, open it and choose Tools - Import, select the Address Book option, click Next, and in the Import window select Outlook and click Next to import your Outlook contacts into Thunderbird. Select all your contacts in Thunderbird and choose Tools - Export. In the Export Address Book window that appears, choose LDIF from the Save as Type pop-up menu and name and save the file.
Finally, if you are doing this in Windows it's time to move this file to your Mac, launch Address Book, and choose File - Import - LDIF. Navigate to the LDIF file you brought over from Windows and import it. Your Outlook contacts will (finally) appear in Address Book.
This should work By the way, this may be the first of many frustrations from Outlook 2011, it's export abilities are laughable, txt or olm, no sync except contacts (mobileme only) or everything (exchange 2007 only) no webdav, caldav etc etc, I'll park mine until version 2 arrives. I've just had the same problem - after syncing my iPhone a couple of days ago I returned to find all my contacts (bar those added in the past couple of days) had gone.not the best time. There didn't seem to be either any software that could do the job nor a way to export from Outlook 2011 to Address book (Lion) as iSync has now gone, nor a way to Export & Import other than via a CSV (text file) which would mean I'd lose all the associated photos, That was until I worked out that Open Outlook 2011 Click on the Contacts button in the sidebar Click CMD and A - to highlight all the contacts on the top menu command 'Contact' click on 'Forward as vCard (cmd+J) Email all your contacts to yourself as attached individual vCards attached to an email message. Open up the email and save the attachments to a suitable directory on you computer (i.e.
'Outlook backup ') the next bit is so easy. Drag and drop all the vCards into the LHS panel (you'll see a green dot with a white plus symbol in the centre) of the Address Book.
